CCS update in Eva Hoffmann Group, June 2016
Dr Xavier Aran Guiu
Xavi completed his undergraduate studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and his PhD at the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), taking part in the University of Barcelona (UB) PhD program.
His work in the lab of Dr Jordi Bernués and Prof. Fernando Azorín focused on the study of posttranslational modifications, using mass spectrometry, biochemistry and structural tools to elucidate their role in the regulation of transcription factor activity.
Since joining Prof. Eva Hoffmann’s group at the Genome Damage and Stability Centre (University of Sussex), Xavi uses similar approaches to study the proteins involved in the formation of the Synaptonemal Complex, the dynamics of its assembly and disassembly, and the process of crossover formation during budding yeast meiosis.
