Welcome to new Hoffmann lab members, August 2017

Rehannah Borup Helweg-Larsen did her doctoral research in bioinformatics at the photo of rehannah helweg-larsenUniversity of Copenhagen, Denmark and has a M.Sc. in Biotechnology with specialization in Bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA.
Rehannah has been working as Bioinformatics Specialist and Microarray Core Unit Manager at Children’s National  Medical Center, Washington DC, and the Microarray Center Manager and subsequently staff Bioinformatician at the Microarray Core Unit, Center for Genomic Medicine, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen.

Research:
Applied bioinformatics to investigate the transcriptome of human cancers and human follicular cells and the correlation between expression of human genes and specific cancer types, as well as the developmental competence of the oocyte and its surrounding follicular cells.
Specific interest in incorporating gene signature profiling into routine molecular testing by developing classification models using machine learning methods for diagnostics of the competent oocyte;  as well as models for classification of Cancer of Unknown Primary and Thyroid Follicular Neoplasia based on gene expression data.
Current projects include transcriptomics and methylomics analysis at the single cell level to investigate the effect of ageing of the follicular cells of the ovary.

Vallari Shukla received  her PhD in Biological Sciences from Indian Institute of photo of vallari shukla
Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, India in May 2017. She has worked on MADF-BESS gene family in Drosophila melanogaster and their functional redundancies in wing and ovary development. She is interested in understanding the molecular basis of human aneuploidies which will help  in a better understanding of errors in human female meiosis.

Andy Chan graduated in BioMedical Science from University of Brighton in 2008.
photo of andy chanDuring his time in Genome Damage and Stability Centre at University of Sussex, his works were to investigate genetic mutations responsible for chromosome dynamics and meiotic catastrophe during gamete formation in budding yeast.
He has previously worked at University of Hong Kong as technical officer specialised in DNA sequencing, GeneScan and Real-Time PCR.
